Ivan Zhukov (04.10.1968–05.23.2018)

Ivan Zhukov (code name “Zhuk”) was born in 1968. He was at war since 2015. Ivan was a volunteer of the UVA (Ukrainian Volunteer Army led by Dmytro Yarosh), UTC (United Territorial Community) “Volyn” of a volunteer subdivision still not legalized by the Ukrainian Volunteer Army. Although, the death of the volunteer was not even reported in the local newspaper.

He was at war since 2015.

He was killed on May 23rd, 2018.

For personal courage, the Ukrainian defender was awarded a medal “For military merit.”… Читати далі

Maksym Liashuk (05.18.1989 – 08.29.2014)

 

Maksym Liashuk was born on May 18, 1989, in the city of Lutsk. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to the village of Ostrozhets, Mlyniv Raion. After finishing the local school, a boy entered Lutsk Institute of Human Development of the University “Ukraine”. His major was Physical Rehabilitation.

After serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Maksym worked as a policeman of the Platoon No. 2 in the Special Rota of the Judicial Police “Hryphon” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. He was also an Assistant Security Officer of the Division of Quick Response “Sokol” of HUBOZ.

At the age of 22, Maksym finished his service in the police forces for health reasons. He worked as a teacher of physical education and the director of the regional tourism center in Mlyniv Center of Tourism.

Maksym was an active participant of Maidan in Kyiv. He was one of the first who joined the Battalion “Svitiaz” where he served as a platoon commander.… Читати далі

Kirys Oleksii S. (03.30.1981 – 12.07.2015)

Oleksii Kirys was born on March 30, 1981, in the village of Smordva, Mlyniv Raion. Having finished Mlyniv Gymnasium of Liberal Arts in 1998,  he entered Rivne Institute of Water Management. Oleksii worked as a sales assistant in Technodim Private Enterprise. In October of 2012, he became a security guard in Mlyniv Tourism and Local History Center of Students’ Creativity. Oleksii took part in the events of the Revolution of Dignity at Nezalezhnosti Maidan. He was also a volunteer in the Aidar Battalion since February 2014.

However, on December 27, 2015, being at the observation post, Oleksii received a shrapnel wound during the shelling near the village of Novhorodske, Donetsk Oblast. The wounds turned out to be mortal. He was buried on December 30, in the town of  Mlyniv, Mlyniv Raion, Rivne Oblast. Oleksii left a mother and a younger brother who also fought in the Zone of Counter-terrorist Operation.

According to the Presidential Executive Order № 216/2016 on May 18, 2016, the soldier was posthumously awarded the Third Class Order For Bravery “for valor and high professionalism demonstrated in the protection of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the oath of enlistment”.… Читати далі

Halas Roman (12.01.1975-08.08.2015)

Roman Halas was born on December 1, 1975, in Sokal, Lviv Oblast. He finished Sokal school №1 with honors. After graduation, he entered the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv where he studied at the Department of Geography.  Having got married, Roman moved to Mlyniv. He worked at the factory in Lutsk. During the fourth wave of conscription in February 2015, he joined the Armed Forces where he served as a platoon commander of the 16th Motorized Infantry Battalion, a senior lieutenant. Unfortunately, his officer path turned out to be rather short.

On August 8, 2015, thirty-nine-year-old Roman Halas died in the fight near Artemivsk.

In the morning of August 11, the coffin with Roman was delivered to his family nest in Mlyniv, where he had been living, making plans and fulfilling them during the last 17 years. After the wake, Roman’s body was moved to Sokal.

Roman Halas was buried in the new cemetery alongside the other two heroes who lost their lives in the counter-terrorist operation, Viktor Syvak and Roman Lan.… Читати далі

Yurii Itkaliuk (04.23.1966-02.04.2015)

Yurii Itkaliuk was born on April 23rd, 1966, in Rudleve, Mlyniv Raion, Rivne Oblast.  Having finished Vovnychi School, he entered Demydivka Vocational School №25, where he obtained a tractor driver and an engineer qualification. Yurii grew up without a father. Thus hard work of an agricultural worker lay on the child’s shoulders.

After military service, Yurii decided to become a serviceman.  He finished The School of Ensigns, served in Czechoslovakia, Kaliningrad, and Odesa.

Shortly after that, Yurii came back home. At first, he worked as a driver on a collective farm. Later he became a mechanic in a car fleet. Yurii raised two sons Ivan and Borys, as actual Ukrainians, diligent and hard-working people in a happy family. He worked as a tractor driver in Vovnychi Village Council.

As a soldier and patriot, Yurii Itkaliuk was mobilized. After the training and the re-training in Yavoriv, Lviv Oblast, and Kryvyi Rih, he fought at the Zone of Counter-terrorist Operation in Luhansk Oblast.… Читати далі

Petro Polytsiak (“Black”) (07.05.1992 – 01.20.2015)

Petro Polytsiak was born on July 5, 1992, in the village of Bobryn, Mlyniv Raion. He studied at the local secondary school. Petro lived in Dubno from where he was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The cyborg served in the 80th Air Mobile Brigade. The hero had a code name “Chornyi” (“Black”).

Before going to the Zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation, Petro worked as a builder and was about to get married.

His relatives weren’t receiving any information about him for a long time. The connection with Petro was lost after the explosion in Donetsk airport. He wasn’t in the list of captives.

Later, it became known that the body of the soldier was delivered from under the ruins to the morgue of one of Dnipropetrovsk hospitals. Petro Polytsiak died on January 20, 2015.

According to the Presidential Executive Order №282/2015 on May 23, 2015, Petro was posthumously decorated with the Third Class Order For Bravery “for personal courage and high professionalism demonstrated in the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and loyalty to the military oath”.… Читати далі

Ivan Melnyk (04.03.1974 – 03.14.2016)

Ivan Melnyk was born on April 3, 1974, in the village of Viinytsia, Mlyniv Raion. His mother Halyna (born in 1948) is a retiree. All her working life she spent as an accountant in the local collective farm. Ivan’s father Ivan Melnik (born in 1948) worked as a teacher in Sosnove Gymnasium. In 1976, the family moved to the village of Sovpa, Berezne Raion. In 1980, Ivan started the gymnasium in Sosnove and finished it in 1991. He grew up in the family with many children. Ivan had three brothers and two sisters.

In 1992, he was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine where he served till 1994. During service, he was awarded a Certificate for loyalty to military duties and achievements in the battle training. Ivan served in Kamianets-Podilskiy Military Base 02983.

From 1994 to 2008, he worked as a driver in the Regional Department of Housing Service.

On March 10, 2015, according to the Decree of Berezne Military Registration and Enlistment Office, Ivan was called up for military service in order to take part in the combat actions in the Zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation.… Читати далі
