Kondratiuk Oleksii Volodymyrovych was the gunner of the grenade launch unit of the platoon of fire support for the 501th Battalion, the Marine Corps of the 36th Separated Marine Corps brigade, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the sailor.

He was born on July 5, 1995 in the village of Piskov, Kostopil district, Rivne region. Some time later, the family moved to the city of Kostopil, Rivne region. He graduated from the 9th form of secondary school No.3 in the city of Kostopil. In 2012 he graduated from Sarny Professional Agricultural Lyceum and got a profession of “Tractor driver and mechanic of agricultural production, locksmith-repairman”.

He worked as a plumber-sanitary technician in a multi-sectoral housing and communal enterprise in the city of Kostopil.

In May 2016, he was called by the Kostopil District Military Commissariat of the Rivne region for military service under the contract of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 501th Separate Battalion of the Marine Corps of the 36th Special Brigade of the Marine Corps of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A1965, the city of Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia region).

Since the summer of 2016, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in the eastern part of Ukraine.

On March 17, 2017, the sailor Kondratiuk was killed during a mortar shelling by Russian-terrorist forces of the observation post of Ukrainian military personnel near the village of Vodiane, Volnovsky district of Donetsk region. Sergeant Halaichuk was killed along with him.
On March 21, 2017, he was buried in the Avenue of Heroes of the “Nove” Cemetery in Kostopol.

He passed away leaving  his parents, brother, wife, and 2-year-old son.
By Decree of the President of Ukraine No.104 / 2017, signed on April 10, 2017, “For personal courage and selfless actions in the protection of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, exemplary execution of military duty”, sailor Kondratiuk Oleksii Volodymyrovych was awarded the Order “For Courage” of III degree (posthumously).

Glory to the Hero!

The great loss gathered thousands of Kostopil citizens on March 21 in the square of T.H. Shevchenko in Kostopil. For the last journey of their countryman, Hero, sailor Oleksii Kondratiuk, son, father of two-year-old son, brother, husband, grandson came to gave respect students collectives, community, district and city leaders, employees of enterprises, organizations and institutions of the district, fellow soldiers and servicemen.

Sadness, sorrow for Oleksii Kondratiuk, who died on March 17 near Mariupol, Donetsk region during a battle task due to the blowing up the mine, felt even the sky, which washed away light rain  by the bitter tears  of people who were there. Participants of the mourning ceremony honored the memory of Oleksii Kondratiuk with a minute of silence.

In the farewell speech, the head of the Kostopil District State Administration Oleksandr Sereda noted that there are no words that could convey the pain of loss that came to the Kondratiuk family, to our community, expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasized on the further support of the family.

Andrew Ursol, Captain of the First Rank, Deputy Commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine on moral and psychological support, noted the great price that the Hero laid down for the calm, peaceful life of his countrymen and all Ukrainians. Colonel Serhii Pasichnyk, deputy commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine on Coastal Defense presented his wife, Iryna, the posthumous award of Oleksii Kondratiuk “For the Defense of Mariupol”.

– Remember, your son died for the Ukrainian state, – with these words Roman Kovel, assistant of Dmitry Yarosh and a deputy of the Ukrainian Parliament, turned to the parents of the hero warrior.  – Lord, we ask for peace to come as soon as possible, we ask for it at this tragic moment.

– Today the heavens are crying again

The hearts are shaken by the pain

For in the East there is a war

And every day we lose our Heroes.

Oh, God, from the Sky

Protect us all,

Save our country from horror!

We pray…

These lines were announced on the square by the former teacher of Oleksii, the teacher of Kostopil secondary school No., 3 Kateryna Avramishina.
She spoke about her former student as a bright soul, a smiling young man whose eyes were always shining with kindness.

– He seemed to be in a hurry to live, to get a profession, get married, bring up a little son, protect his Fatherland, protect us all, – the teacher told with tears. All Kostopil citizens gathered for the funeral honors.

We expressed our sincere condolences to the relatives of the deceased hero, we bowed our heads before Oleksii, because there is no greater honor than to give your life for the Motherland. He died for all of us to escape the horrors of war, for all ofusto have a peaceful sky above us.

May the blessed memory of him live forever in the hearts of his relatives, friends, sworn brothers, and fellow countrymen. May his heroic feat be engraved with golden letters in our history.

Eternal memory to our fighting companions

Marines – Sergeant Leonid Leonidovich HALAICHUK and Oleksandr V. KONDRATIUK were killed during combat operations on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Our battle brothers have gone to eternity in the very bloom of their lives, but we will always remember their feat in the name of our Motherland.

Ukrainian military sailors know too well that all these bustards which sow death and destruction on our land will receive the inevitable retaliation.

The Command authorities and the cadre of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine express deep condolences to the relatives of the fallen heroes.

Oleksii Kondratiuk, a Kostopil resident of Rivne Region who was killed during the ATO, was awarded posthumously. The order “For Courage” of the 3rd degree was presented to the wife of the Hero and his two-year-old son Dmytro.

Deputy Commander of the Battalion Oleksandr Shkut said that the sworn brothers have initiated a decision to name one of the ships in honor of Oleksii Kondratiuk, as Kostopil District State Administration informs.

Honor for the heroes

On October 11, 2018, a rally took place on the territory of the Sarny Agrarian Lyceum, whose members gathered to honor the memory of the graduate student of the institution, Oleksii Kondratiuk, who died in the battles in the East of Ukraine, and to open a memorial plaque in his honor.

The right to open a memorial plaque was given to the head of the student self-government of the educational institution Angelina Mychka and the head of the ATO Veterans Union, the graduate of Lyceum Andrii Priharskyi. Director of the Lyceum Mykola Moroziuk addressed the participants of the rally with words in honor and memory of the deceased warrior. His speech was joined by the town Mayor Svitlana Usyk, Deputy Head of the District Council Mykola Kostetskyi, Deputy of the Regional Council Mykola Drahanchuk and Peter Tsytsiura, Oleksii Kondratiuk’s teacher.

Fathers superior of the Holy Protection cathedrals of Moscow and Kyiv Patriarcate Volodymyr and Andrii served the funeral ceremony. Then the sad melody of the “Plyne Kacha” was heard, and there were lights lit up, and the wife of the deceased Iryna, his brother Andrii and the participants of the sorrowful ceremony put live flowers to the memorial plaque.
