Oleksandr Matsiuk was born on April 4, 1975, in the village of Velyka Liubasha, Kostopil Raion. In 1982, he started Piskiv Comprehensive School, which he finished in 1992.

He took driver training courses in Rivne Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation, and Navy (DOSAAF) to obtain a category “C”. In June 1993, Oleksandr was called up into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.  He served as a National Guard driver of the armored personnel carrier (APC) in the city of Chuhuiv, Kharkiv Oblast. In the autumn of 1994, Oleksandr was discharged from the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Shortly afterward, he worked at the collective farm of 40th Anniversary of October in the Kostopil House Building Factory.

On February 5, 2015, Oleksandr volunteered for military service to defend his Motherland. He underwent training at Rivne Military Firing Ground. In May 2015, he was rotated to the Zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) as a gunner of the self-propelled gun (SPG) as a part of the 14th Brigade in the town of Mariinka. Also, Oleksandr served in the 81st Military Outpost in the town of Krasnohorivka.

On April 29, 2016, performing military duty in the Zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation, a native of the village of Velyka Liubasha, Kostopil Raion, Oleksandr Matsiuk died.

Kostopil bid farewell to Olexandr Matsiuk

On the second day of Easter, on May 2nd, a body of Olexandr Matsiuk, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who died in the ATO zone while performing official duties, was delivered to Kostopil,

Olexandr Matsiuk was born on April 4, 1975 in the village of Velyka Liubasha. In 1982 he went to the first form of Piskivska Secondary School, which he was graduated in 1992.

Line military service was held in 1993-1994 in the city of Chuguev, Kharkiv region, as the driver of the BTR of the National Guard of Ukraine. After being released to the reserve, he worked in the collective farm “40th anniversary of October”, later – the guardian of the Kostopilsky house-building plant and on various works.

On February 5, 2015 Oleksandr Matsiuk volunteered to defend the sovereignty of Ukraine. After passing military exercises on the Rivne landfill, he received the specialty “gunner of the SAU” and in May he was sent as a member of the 14th brigade to the ATO zone. Served in the towns of Marinka and Krasnogorovka.

On April 29, 2016  Kostopil Raiviiskomat received a message that Alexander Matsiuk died performing official duties.

Farewell to the Hero took place on the square of Taras Shevchenko. Leading the district and the city, state and local authorities, civil society organizations, mobilized combatants in the East, servicemen, volunteers, and indifferent residents of our region came to send to glory.

With words of sincere condolences to the family of the deceased were the head of the district administration Oleksandr Sereda, district military commissar Oleksandr Litvinenko, deputy of the district council Tamara Zulaikhi. In her speech, the mother of the Hero, Lidiia Mikolaiivna, thanked people for coming to her last son’s path.

And again, anxiety and sadness in the Piskiv …

The formal opening of the memorial tablet to Oleksandr Matsiuk, a member of the ATO, who died, protecting the integrity of the borders of our country was made on May 19, at the Piskiv High School I-II levels. The day of honor of the Hero-countryman in the village became a day full of sorrow, compassion, interwoven with indescribable pride for the community who educated man, a patriot with high moral qualities.

The event was attended by the head of RDA Oleksandr Sereda, the chairman of the region council Sergii Tkachuk, the head of region council of Union of Education and Science of Ukraine Larysa Holovachyk, lead specialist od the Department of Education Mariia Oliferchuk, village head Vasyl Yarmolchuk, deputy of region council Vasyl Rubel, prior of Holy Protection Church Alexander Soltys, ATO members, relatives and friends of the Hero, teaching staff and students of the school. They said that this is not the first plaque on the walls of the school, but the memory about the heroes will live forever in the people’s hearts. They expressed their sincere condolences to the relatives of Oleksandr Matsiuk. The right to open the memorial tablet was given to the ATO participants, after which it was consecrated by Father Oleksandr.
