Новіцький Віктор Павлович (14.04.1978–10.08.2014)

Viktor Novitskyi was born on April 14, 1978, in the village of Klymentiivka, Baranivka Raion. After finishing school, he graduated from a military lyceum, Service Academy in Odesa and Military Academy in Kyiv. Viktor lived with his wife and two children in Rivne.

He held a rank of lieutenant colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and administrative officer of the operational command “North”. From the first days, he was in the hazardous Zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation.

On September 10, 2014, during the removal through the temporarily controlled by pro-Russian fighters territory, the column of the military hardware was attacked by enemies from multiple artillery rocket system fighting machine FM-21 Grad. A contract soldier of the mechanized brigade got injured. Under heavy shellfire, Viktor Novitskyi managed to provide the wounded with emergency medical aid and dragged him to a safe place. However, the next shell ended the life of lieutenant colonel.

He was buried with military honors in the town of Baranivka.

According to the Presidential Executive Order #817/2014 on January 21, 2014, Viktor Novitskyi was posthumously decorated with the Third Class Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi “for personal courage and high professionalism demonstrated in the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath”.  He was also conferred the title of the Honorary Citizen of Rivne.
