Serhii Huliuk was born on September 7th, 1981, in the city of Rivne. He lived in Lutsk. He did military service in the Border Security Force for some time, and in 2002, he was conscripted to the army on a contract basis. Serhii Huliuk served as a junior sergeant in the Lutsk border detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
He had stayed in the zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation since June 28th, 2014. On July 31st, 2014, the border guards were mortared by Russian mercenaries and soldiers in the Raion of Vasylivka. As a result of this confrontation, five border guards were killed, and 11 were injured. Sergeant Serhii lost his life on that day. The deceased left three children: two sons, 12 and 6 years old, and a 4-year-old daughter.
Serhii was buried on August 3, 2014, in the village of Zavyziv, Ostroh Raion.
According to the Presidential Executive Order №, 640/2014 on August 8th, 2014, Serhii Huliuk was posthumously awarded the Third Class Order For Bravery “for personal courage and heroism demonstrated in defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.” Moreover, he received the title of Honorary Citizen of the city of Rivne.
The dead border guard buried in Zaviziv
On July 31st, 2014, in Vasilivka village (Amvrosiivsky Raion) in the Donetsk Oblast, the shelling of border guards with mortars and grenade launchers was carried out. The life of the younger sergeant of the Lutsk border detachment of Ukraine, Serhiy Huliuk, ended on at that place. The soldiers were being called for duty from the Volyn Oblast, where Serhey’s wife and three children live. At one time, he was in regular service in the border troops. Since 200 – on a contractual basis. Serhiy Guliuk was in the zone of the ATO from June 28th. In the operational-combat boundary pledge from the Lutsk border detachment, he guarded and defended the eastern boundaries of Ukraine.
Having felt the approach of death, Serhiy called his family asking for the last wishes of being buried in the village of Zavizov, where he spent a lot of time, where his parents were born, and where his grandmother lives now.
Farewell to the dead border guards on August 3rd. Serhiy was buried in Ostroh Raion, as he commanded. In the last way of the hero were all Zavizov residents and residents of neighboring villages, representatives of the raion authorities, Ostroh RVC, the Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
